just quickly: BUY BUY BUY!
This game is one of the best things to happen to the Vita. fullstop. Actually there certainly are flaws, and what game doesn’t. But none of them matter more than all the good stuff that’s in this game. The sense of freedom while limited, is refreshing. And along with the great story-telling and colourful character developments you already have the ingredients of an interesting RPG in your hands. Couple that with mood-setting japanese rpg tunes and a visual style that is cel-shading/anime/manga in full 3D and you really have yourself.. well a great (and different) RPG.
impressed yet? ok maybe we add some touch buttons with cat paws on ‘em.
The let-downs are apparent soon as you pick up the game and these are already listed below. City areas, side quests (there are DLCs to make up for this) or mostly lack of are a big missed opportunity. Even the pet kitty, while certainly not unimportant because without it you just walk around like other people; it’s yet another missed opportunity. Think of all the games that benefit from a four-legged companions (Fable, fable… er o Strider Hiryu)
NOW you’re impressed right? right??………..
The controls are not easy to get used to, and are somewhat unintuitive. but practice practice practice and then suddenly you’re in the air and manoeuvring exactly as you wish, you’ll find yourself having a lot of fun in this near total free roam environment.
Bottom line is, if you enjoy japanese manga, anime and like action-rpgs, you’ll like this very much. And for everyone else, just buy it anyway. It really is one of the best games on the Vita right now.

A Wiseman once said: a picture is worth a thousand words.
But Wiseman, what if there are a thousand words in a picture?
obviously Wiseman had never heard of screenshots.
Quest log- Main missions, Challenges and DLC missions!
map of one of the castaway cities that you must reunite with the mainland.
dude pretends he wasn’t look but actually saw everything. Kat: GASP!
you walked in on me doing nothing! i’ll now proceed to cry.
bads
—- while there is freeroam, the city areas themselves offer little to do other than item collection, some timed races and challenges and seeking hidden characters to speak to
—– camera angles can spaz up; difficult to get right even with manual adjustments
—- combat could benefit from a tighter and more visual lock-on system
— gyroscope implementation feels unintuitive at first, not easy to differentiate from accelerometer
— invisible walls could have benefitted from a better implementation
—not for those who gets disoriented easily. hint: do as the game says, look at her hair!

you can take the train, or fly.
like so, and collect gems while you’re at it.
or you can talk to creepy men with lots of exclamation marks.
or take upskirt screenshots.
…and remain skirtless.
seriously though, look at Kat’s hair to determine which way up she is. or skirt.
thank YOU for entertaining me, Gravity Rush.
